Martyn's Intrepid Chassis
Mar 09, 2008

Martyn's chassis was sent back to JKH/Intrepid after testing at Larkhall last weekend.  After his crash at Wigan it was fitted with new stubs and various other parts (very expensive!!).  After rebuilding it was checked and the chassis was found to be twisted.  Although we did our best to straighten it we couldn't get it perfect and the kart just would not handle well enough in testing at Larkhall.

Martyn's kart wil be fully sorted for Clay

So we agreed with John Hoyle of JK/Intrepid to send it down to be rejigged and it wll be sorted in time for the opening round of the Super One Championships at Clay Pigeon in Dorset, next weekend.  In fact the chassis was delivered to Rowrah this weekend (9th March) and a Lisa Playfair who was racing there brought it up for us so we have plenty time to put it all together before setting off for the long journey to Clay this week - roughly 9 hours each way!!.

Difficult start to season

Martyn didn't get the best start to his 2008 season at a very cold and changeable wet/dry Wigan last weekend.

It didn't look like being a great weekend before Martyn started - is dad had been in hospital that week after a scan showed a stomach problem - that cleared itself just in time to allow him to make the trip to Wigan.  Martyn's uncle Brian of Maglin Domestics again came along to help as Martyn's dad was still very weak (should't really have been there....)

After a miserable wet and windy (very) early morning journey to Wigan Martyn struggled to get a good setup on his factory Intrepid Cruiser, suffering from terminal understeer all weekend which severely limited him.

In heat 1, he was knocked off at the start but rejoined and worked his way up to finish a good 8th.  He was well off the pace though.

Heat 2..

First race of the year - ?
Feb 09, 2008

 Update:..........

After some pretty variable weather, and Martyn's dad not keeping too well at the moment Martyn decided to give Larkhall and Rowrah a miss in February.  It looks like the first race of the year may now be the Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan, where Martyn has raced lots of times in the past couple of years, winning the Gold Cup (twice), the Platinum Cup and breaking the lap record.

His first Rotax race was there last November and he went quite well - so all being well he will be looking for a good performance there again.

In the meantime Martyn has received another engine from Steve Ogden, giving him the two engines he will (at least) need to tackle the season properly.  Steve and his team have done another good job of preparing he motor and it will be interesting to get a chance to test it against is other engine.

Martyn was keeping his hand in at the last Larkhall meeting - 3rd February.  Although he didn't race - the weather was poor and the grid was small! - he helped a couple of Duncan White's drivers in the Saltire Motorsport awning meing their machanic with a bit of coaching.
