| Would YOU be interested in supporting Martyn? Read about him below and how you (or your company) can help
Sixteen year-old Martyn Lyell started kart racing in February 2003 following a year of indoor corporate karting for juniors and some low-key junior events in an older kart in 2002.
In his novice year in Junior Honda (twin Honda engines) he won the Scottish Super Series, the Scottish Open and finished 4th in the British Super Two Championships. In 2004 in Honda after three podium finishes in the UK championships he elected to move out of that class giving up an almost certain UK championship win. Martyn wasn't looking for easy victories though and he moved up to the highly competitive Junior TKM class
This is the class that spawned Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson and many other top F1 drivers.
He expected it to be tough (and it was!) but by mid season was already one of the top drivers in Scotland. In August at the TKM Festival at Kimbolton (near Cambridge) he showed that he was also one of the fastest in the UK by qualify 3rd fastest and setting the fastest lap in the "Elite" final - first time at the track.
In 2004 he had a full season in the TKM class with the aim of competing in the British Super One Championships. He was an absolute revelation to most drivers who didn't really know him and in the six-round series finished 2nd in the Championship, recording a win at Larkhall as well as several other heat wins. Even greater glory was to follow, when immediately end of the S1 series Martyn moved upt to the Senior TKM Extreme class. A top 10 result would have been outstanding, but Martyn did better than that - he only wnet and won it - his fuirst senior race - and the British Open Championship! however he was exluded on a technicality - his exhaust had been knowcked off it's mounting bracket by another kart and Martyn was exclused for failing to notice he was being signaled by the officials to come in. But he DID win it...... At this stage he is now one of the top drivers in TKM in the UK and plans for 2006 will be to go for the win in the TKM Extreme Super One Series.
Successes to date include:
In 2005 - in Jnr TKM Intermediate (and TKM Extreme)
won 27 races (or 28 if you count the British Open Championship race)
finished first across the line in the British Open Championship
won the Gold Cup

Selected by 7Kart to be a "works driver" and supported by RPM - the top engine tuner in the class.
How can you get involved?
Like any motor sport there is a cost, which so far has been borne entirely by the family budget! Motor sport is expensive but karting is probably as inexpensive as it gets. Don't be mistaken - Martyn's achievements have been very low budget compared with many of his competitors and some support could make a real difference.
Is this something that you might be interested in helping with? What would you get in return? 1. Tremendous satisfaction of helping one of the UK's promising young starts on his way to a potentially top motorsport career? 2.
Martyn's race machinery - kart, race suit, helmet and race support van are always well presented and would be great places to publicise you or your organisation3. Martyn and his kart or equipment would be available for your own publicity - product launches etc. and would be a great additional source of press interest in you or your organisation 4. Would you like to be able to take family, friends or business colleagues to a race day ? That can also be accommodated.
5. Remember - Martyn has great potential to really go places but that will be entirely dependant on our ability to finance the early stages of his career. He is extremely presentable and media friendly and it would be an asset to be associated with him. |
As you can see from the PRESS section of the website attached copies Martyn has already been featured in the national Karting Magazine, the Midlothian Online Website, the local free paper "The Town Crier" and the Midlothian Advertiser and the Lothian Times which is distributed free to all residents in the county. Not only that - but the National "Karting Magazine" (www.kartingmagazine.co.uk ) featured a two-page profile of Martyn in the January 2005 issue.
I hope you can see that this could be an opportunity to be linked with Martyn at this stage in his career. He is and will continue to be supported by his family but any help that that could be offered would be a great benefit - hopefully for us all. Here are some of the estimated costs involved for the 2006 season (keeping things down!!)

All help / support is appreciated. We have kept most of the support we already have 2005- who were -
Maglin Domestics
Kartpics - John MacTavish - top photographer who supplies photos for Martyn and also for the local press and National
Magazine
GFR- Gordon Finlayson prepares Martyn's motors in 2005 ,
and now Gordon Turner from Andrew Turner, Blacksmiths of Penicuik have helped with minor chassis repairs.
Terence Dove from Evenflow provided some advanced driver coaching early in 2005 and has been a great help in promoting Martyn nationally
So as you can see Martyn is already being recognised (maybe the most) swithin the sport and you would be helping him make up the gap between himself and some of the bigger budget drivers. Martyn has the skill. We would be happy to discuss ways that you could be involved, call or email Martyn's dad - Graham Lyell ( 01968) 677670 email admin@martynlyell.co.uk
