After starting out fastest in practice Martyn won the first heat of the day, from grid 13 setting the fastest lap around a quarter of a second faster than anyone else. He followed that up with another win in heat two but had got to to front early and held on comfortably with no need to push still set the fastest lap but this time much slower than heat 1.
In heat 3 He got caught up in traffic..... after quickly getting through to 3rd place e lost out in a succession of corners as other drivers made moves on him. Within a few laps he had cleared them again but was unable to make any impression on the two in front.
This was good enough to put Martyn on his second pole of the year (he's now earned 3 front row and one second row grids so far) . Thinks didn't look good from the outset.... Although he set of in the lead he was quickly overwhelmed and slipped down the field as he struggled with a carburetor problem After trying to hold on, fearing possible engine damage he was forced to retire.....gutted.
Well done to Mark Hobson (again) on the win.

MARTYN SETS NEW LAP RECORD AT 3 SISTER "VALLEY" CIRCUIT
Again, in cold but dry (mostly) conditions Martyn finished a good 4th in heat one, from grid 18 setting the fastest lap of the race, which was a new lap record for the demanding Valley circuit at 3 Sisters.
In the second (of two) heat he started from grid 13 and worked through to a strong 2nd place behind fellow Scot Steven Napier. Martyn was surprised and disappointed at his friends bad luck when Steven seized his engine on the very last corner of the race, leaving Martyn to inherit 1st place.
This put Martyn on pole for the final, alongside another Scot Callum Craw, also having a good day. Behind Martyn was club favourite James Duxberry and alongside him was Dean Golba.
Martyn set off in the lead only to lose it in lap two when Duxberry out-dragged him on the long straight. Martyn set after him and closed right up, setting the fastest lap of the race - then a slight spit of rain started - just enough to slow them down marginally and Martyn was unable to maintain his challenge, settling for a safe 2nd place behind Duxberry.
Kimbolton 12th February 2006
club meeting
Some valuable testing in the new kart but a disappointing 8th after startline blunder
Martyn ventured 360 miles south to Kimbolton to race with the ARC team in the last chance he would have to test at the track before the Super 1 round to be held there in April . There was a good grid of 51 drivers - including many S1 drivers - so Martyn expected it to be tough.
After a dry but cold day's practice – all that was learned was swept to one side by the constant rain on Sunday. Still that's mainly why Martyn was there – to get a setup sorted out for the kart for different conditions! Unfortunately the rain meant that Martyn wasn't able to show off his nice new ARC race suit properly.
Nothing like a bit of pressure?... Martyn was in pole for hea1 one. He finished a good 2nd to local ace Micky Higham who was absolutely flying.
Heat two, from grid 29 he did amazingly well to finish 7th
Heat 3, from grid 15, again a god result to finish 7th again
Martyn was pleasantly surprised to find that this was good enough to put him in P3 on the grid for the final.
Because of the large programme it was beginning to get dark by the time they got to run the final - the last race of the day which was shortened to only 6 laps because of the light. Unfortunately the kart behind Martyn (Jason Moore) was rammed into Martyn on the rolling lap and they got tangled up and had to stop to separate themselves before restarting and trying to regain their grid position. By the time the came around Martyn was only midfield - and shockingly - they let the race go............ According to the official timing Martyn was 21st past the start - when he should have been 3rd......
Suitably wound-up Martyn charged through the field to finish a very credible 8th, in only 6 laps. Disappointing - but it's not an important race. Still - that's two races this year and not had a win yet.... maybe next one?
In cold but dry conditions Martyn started his 20076 season off with a 3rd place in the final at the Larkhall, meeting of 5 Feb. 2006.
From grid 6, in heat one Martyn worked his way forward to catch and then pass Mark Hobson who was leading. However Mark neatly timed a last lap move to take the lead and held on to win by 0.01s from Martyn with Stuart Warnock in 3rd place.
In heat 2 from grid 10 Martyn again stormed through to take the lead from Ian Munro. Martyn defended the final corner, leaving almost no room on the inside only to find Munro squeezing through, forcing him wide to finish 2nd, only 0.03s behind.
Heat 3, from grid 4 should have been Martyn's best chance but a poor start from the outside grid and a couple of attempted passes let others through giving him the hard job of coming through again. He did that setting his fastest lap of the day at 41.17s, although 0.02s slower than Mark Hobson who finished 2nd. The pair were several 10th faster than everyone else with Martyn finishing 3rd behind Stuart Warnoock and Mark Hobson.
This put Martyn on grid 2 for the final alongside pole-man Stuart Warnock. It is usually hard from the outside of the grid and this was no exception with Martyn losing several places at the start. However he fought forward again into 2nd place although Mark Hobson had made a good start and cleared off with little chance of Martyn catching him by the time he came through. Maryn's kart was also a bit hesitant out of the slower bends losing him precious 10ths and his fastest lap was nearly 3/10ths slower than the 3rd heat! (maybe a bit of grit in the carb filter?-still to check). Meanwhile Ian Munro was also on a charge and fought past Stuart Warnock to take 3rd place. Martyn had learned from heat 2 and this time left no gap on the final bend for Munro to come through. That didn't seem to matter and Ian drove over the kerbs, pushing himself and Martyn wide as Staurt Warnock said “thanks very much” and drove through into 2nd leaving Martyn and Ian to drag-race to the line for 3rd which Martyn got by 0.05s
A good start, but not really what Martyn had planned ( a win would have been more like it). Well done to Mark Hobson.
