Sixteen year-old Martyn started kart racing in February 2003 following a year of indoor corporate karting for juniors and some low-key junior events in an older kart in 2002. Martyn immediately demonstrated that he had great potential by winning his first ever races - from the back of the grid!. This was followed by a string of successes at circuits in the North of England and across Scotland, as well as a very impressive debut season in the Super Two - British Championship for his class of kart.
In his first year of MSA racing Martyn finished 4th overall in the Super Two British Championships and was presented with this and a special award for the best newcomer in the whole Super Two series at a special prize-giving at BAR Honda F1 HQ.
He was a "works driver" for 7Kart, the leading chassis manufacturers in pro-karting in the UK, and was supported by RPM, the number one engine tuner for Honda pro-karting.
